Zopiclone is a hypnotic drug that works by modulating the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor. GABAA is one of the major inhibitory neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) in the central nervous system. Simply put, the drug works by depressing the central nervous system so you can fall asleep. However, the exact mechanism is still unknown. It has been presumed that Zopiclone makes you feel sleepy by working on a specific brain chemical.

Dose

• Typically, the dose of Zopiclone depends on the age, drug response, and the severity of insomnia. However, doctors may advise Zopiclone 7.5 mg only once in 24 hours.
• You must take this medication orally, with or without food, preferably before going to bed or as advised by your doctor.

• Older patients are more sensitive to the side effects of Zopiclone so they must use the drug with extra caution.
