The mechanism of action of HCG 5000 IU is somewhat similar to a hormone called pituitary luteinizing hormone (LH). HCG also has a small degree of FSH activity. Human chorionic gonadotropin stimulates the secretion of gonadal steroid hormones and it does so by stimulating interstitial cells known as Leydig cells of the corpus luteum (ovary) to secrete progesterone in women and androgens from the testis.
