Working

Deslor (desloratadine) is a long-acting antihistamine. Histamine is a substance that is released when an allergic reaction takes place. The body produces histamine when the immune system tries to fight off allergens, such as pollen, dust, molds, pet dander, etc. Histamine is responsible for causing inflammation of the mucus membranes of the upper respiratory tract and the skin. Desloratadine suppresses the secretion of histamine in order to bring down inflammation and provide relief from allergy symptoms.

Dose

• The recommended dose of Deslor in patients aged 12 and above is 5 mg once daily, which can be taken with or without food, or as advised by a doctor.
• Read the prescribing instructions carefully before you start taking Deslor tablets and each time when you get its refill. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.
• Do not increase or decrease your dose or take this allergy medication for a longer period than recommended. Overuse or overdose could increase the risk of adverse effects.
• See your doctor or allergist if your condition fails to improve or if it gets worse even after using Deslor as suggested.

Precautions

• Before using this allergy medication, tell your doctor your medical issues, if any, such as kidney disease or liver disease.
• More importantly, tell your doctor which medications you have been taking because desloratadine may interact with some drugs, such as loratadine.
• During pregnancy, Deslor must be used only if it is indicated by your doctor. Discuss every risk and benefit of the drug with your doctor in advance.

Warnings

• Avoid alcoholic beverages during treatment with Deslor because the combination of alcohol and desloratadine increases the risk of dizziness and sleepiness.
• Deslor should be used with great caution in patients, especially older patients, with liver or kidney disease.
• You should stop taking Deslor at least three days before you take an allergy test as the drug may affect the results of the test.
