Telma H is actively composed of telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Telmisartan is an ARB that works by relaxing the blood vessels so blood can flow more freely across the body. On the other hand, hydrochlorothiazide is called a “water pill” because it increases the amount of urine your body makes, especially in the initials stages of the treatment. Hydrochlorothiazide also helps to relax the blood vessels for the easy flow of blood throughout the system.

Dose

• Your doctor may advise Telma H 40mg/12.5 mg one tablet once daily, which is to be taken orally with or without food.
• Doctors often advise people to avoid taking Telma H within 4 hours of your bedtime to prevent you from getting up to urinate at night.
• Use this high blood pressure medication regularly without missing or skipping the dose. To remember your dose, take the drug at the same time each day.
• You must keep using Telma H even if you feel well or your blood pressure monitoring is within normal limits.
• It may take a few weeks before you notice an improvement in your blood pressure levels.
• If you are also taking cholesterol-lowering drugs like colestipol or cholestyramine, take Telma H 4 hours before or after taking these medications.
• Inform your doctor if your blood pressure does not improve or worsen even after using this drug for a certain period of time.

Side Effects

• Dizziness or lightheadedness

• Diarrhea
• Dehydration

To prevent dizziness or lightheadedness, get up slowly while rising from a sitting position. Immediately seek medical attention if you experience serious symptoms of dehydration, such as dry mouth, extreme thirst, muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat, or confusion.

Precautions

• Before taking Telma H, you must inform your doctor about the drug allergies you have, especially to telmisartan or hydrochlorothiazide.
• You must also inform your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially kidney disease, liver dysfunction, electrolyte imbalance, lupus, or gout.
• More importantly, inform your doctor about the medications you are taking for your medical conditions because Telma H may interact with certain drugs.
• Telma H is not recommended during pregnancy because it may harm the fetus. So, consult with your doctor to know more about using this drug during pregnancy.
• Similarly, this high blood pressure medication can pass into breast milk and affect the newborn. Check with your doctor about using this drug during breastfeeding.

Warnings

• Telma H can make you a bit dizzy or drowsy so avoid indulging in risky activities such as driving or using machinery. Also, avoid alcohol or marijuana during treatment.
• This antihypertensive medication may affect your blood sugar levels so check your blood sugar regularly during treatment with Telma H. Report to your doctor if your blood sugar increases.
• Telmisartan and hydrochlorothiazide may affect your blood potassium levels as well so check with your doctor before using any potassium supplements.
• Telma H may make your skin more sensitive to the sun, increasing your risk of skin cancer. So, limit your time in the sun or use sunscreen, or wear protective clothing when you are outdoors.
• Older individuals are more vulnerable to experience the side effects of Telma H, especially dizziness and increased urination that may cause kidney dysfunction.
