Generic Periactin contains Cyproheptadine, a first-generation antihistamine drug. As the name suggests, it has an antagonistic effect on the secretion of histamine, a chemical that is secreted when an allergic reaction takes place. When the immune system interacts with an external substance called allergen, the body secretes more histamine, a chemical that is responsible for giving rise to allergy symptoms. Dose

• You need to take Generic Periactin orally with or without food.
• Your doctor might advise you to take this allergy medicine at least twice or thrice a day.
• You must take the whole tablet with a glass of water, without breaking, crushing, chewing, or splitting the tablet.
• The dose is often based on a person’s age, health status, and the response to the drug.
• Do not alter or change the prescribed dose or take it more or less often than recommended.

• Older people may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug. They are prone to dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, and trouble urinating. Dizziness can increase the risk of falling. Thus, it is recommended taking special precautions.
• Generic Periactin should be used only if recommended during pregnancy. Also, know about the risks and benefits of the medicine during pregnancy.
