Nodict (naltrexone) is a drug that blocks opioid receptors. And the use of this drug can lead to the reduction of dopamine levels in the brain and the reduction in alcohol intake. The drug can also nullify the effects associated with alcohol and craving via its opioid-receptor antagonist effects. In clinical lab settings, the drug has been shown to decrease alcohol and opioid use as well by reducing the pleasure or reward of feeling ‘high’ after taking narcotics or drinking alcohol.

Dose

• For chronic alcoholism or alcohol dependence, adults should take Nodict 50 mg once daily for up to 12 weeks or as advised by a doctor.
• For narcotic or opioid addiction, adults should take one-half Nodict 25 mg tablet as the first dose, and the other half after 1 hour. After that, they can take Nodict 50 mg once daily.
• You should stop taking opiates for at least 7 to 10 days before starting the treatment with Nodict. You must be opioid-free before starting the treatment.
• Take Nodict tablets regularly as recommended by your doctor. Do not stop taking the drug until your doctor says to do so. Regular treatment has shown great efficacy.
• If you miss your dose, take it as soon as recollect taking your dose. However, skip it if your next dose is scheduled. Overdosing could lead to serious adverse events.

Precautions

• Before you use Nodict, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any opioid antagonist, including naltrexone. You should avoid this medicine if you are hypersensitive to naltrexone.
• Before taking Nodict pills, tell your doctor about your medical issues, especially if you have recently used any type of opioid drug, or have kidney or liver disease.
• Tell your surgeon or dentist that you have been using Nodict for your alcohol/opioid addiction before undergoing any surgical procedure.
• During pregnancy, Nodict must be used only when it is clearly indicated. Please discuss all risks and benefits of the drug with your doctor.
• Naltrexone may pass into breast milk so consult your doctor before you breastfeed your child during the treatment.

Warnings

• It is imperative to carry a medical identification card stating that you are taking Nodict so that your doctor can give you appropriate treatment in case of an emergency.
• Nodict can make you a bit dizzy. So, avoid alcohol or cannabis that make you dizzier. Avoid driving, using machinery, or doing anything that needs your mental alertness during treatment.
• After stopping Nodict treatment, your body may become more sensitive to lower doses of opioids, and may eventually increase the risk of life-threatening side effects from the opioids.
• Do not overdose with naltrexone pills. If you do so, you may experience serious side effects that need medical attention.
• Keep Nodict pills away from pets, children, and pregnant women. Store the medicine in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat or sunlight.
