WORKING : | Ciprofloxacin works by first inhibiting the growth of bacteria and then killing the bacteria. It stops the production of food (essential proteins) required by bacteria to be alive. Generic Cipro contains Ciprofloxacin as the active constituent. It works by inhibiting the enzyme DNA gyrase, a type II topoisomerae, is essential for the separation of replicated Bacterial DNA. Thus, It inhibits the replication of DNA i.e. growth or spreading of the infection is stopped.
In the second step it stops the production of proteins that promote the growth of bacterial infections. Thus, the bacterial infection is completely eradicated. DOSE : | Generic Ciprofloxacin prescribed dosage for adults is 250 to750 mg twice in day (after every 12 hours) in case of any bacterial infections. The dosage can be increased above 750 mg in 12 hours depending upon the individual requirements, but strictly under the doctor's supervision. The prescribed dosage for the pediatric patients is 200 to 400 mg twice in a day. Intake of water should be increased when you taking the generic Cipro dosage to avoid the deposition of Ciprofloxacin in kidney.
Taking it with milk or yogurt is not recommended. Fix the regular schedule for the dosage because daily intake should be maintained in the body. Don't increase the dosage on your own, if you don't get the relief from the bacterial infections with the recommended dosage. Avoid taking overdose of this pill because it may lead to side effects like weakness, convulsions, urination problems, blue lips, and pale skin. SIDE EFFECTS : | - Discontinue the usage of generic Cipro if you see any of these side effects problems in respiration, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, and hives. Call your doctor immediately.
- Watery and bloody diarrhea is another side effect observed among the individuals using it.
- Convulsion (seizure or black-out) is commonly seen after the initial dosage of generic Cipro.
- Stomach pain, nausea, dark urine, low fever, clay-colored stools, jaundice, and lost appetite.
- Increase in the frequency of urination.
- Sudden pain or inflammation near your joints in your arm or ankle.
- Pain in chest and increase in the heartbeats was observed among the 1% users.

WARNINGS : | - People who have previously experienced hypersensitive reactions to Ciprofloxacin should avoid the intake.
- It should not be taken in combination with Theophylline as it can cause seizures and disturbances in the frequency of heart beats.
- The drugs that react with generic Cipro and may have harmful effects on your health are theophylline (Slo-Bid, Elixophyllin, Theolair, Theo-Dur, Slo-Phyllin), idanosine (Videx, ddI), warfarin (Coumadin), and insulin or an oral diabetes medication such as glipizide (Glucotrol), glyburide (Micronase, Diabeta, Glynase), and others.
- Please note that this pill should be used to treat the bacterial infections only. Viral or fungal infections are not treated by this pill.
- Avoid the habitual intake of this drug because it can lead to severe health hazards.
- Administration together with magnesium/aluminum antacids, or sucralfate, Videx (didanosine) chewable/buffered tablets or pediatric powder, other highly buffered drugs, or with other products containing calcium, iron or zinc should be avoided. Please take it 6 hours after these medicines.
