June 30th, 2008 by James Smith

Is really Generic Drug’s safety a worried issue?

A generic drug is a drug which is produced and distributed without patent protection. A generic drug must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation. A generic drug is identical, or bio-equivalent to a brand name drug in dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics and intended use. Although generic drugs are chemically identical to their branded counterparts, they are typically sold at very low affordable prices as compared to branded drugs.

Ranbaxy and Daiichi Deal
June 28th, 2008 by Daniel Wright

It came as a surprise for many when Ranbaxy Labs’ promoters decided to sell their stake to Japan’s Daiichi Sankyo. But a closer look at the performance of Ranbaxy Labs on Dalal Street in the last three months tells a different story. It appears that the stock market knew about this deal before hand and probably a case of insider trading cannot be ruled out.

But it’s not Ranbaxy Laboratories alone, a SundayET analysis of all listed Indian companies, including Ambuja Cements, Centurion Bank of Punjab and i-flex Solutions, that were acquired in the last two years, shows that the stock price followed the same pattern. In all these cases, their stock prices outperformed industry peers’ performance on the bourses during the period of 90 days leading to the deal announcement.

GD: U.S Vs Canada
June 26th, 2008 by Daniel Wright

U.S Generic Drugs are cheaper than Canadian Drugs:

Generic Drugs cost much less than their brand-name counterparts, however, and the U.S. generics market is considered the world’s most competitive. So FDA Commissioner Mark McClellan argues that for many people, buying more homegrown generics is a risk-free alternative to imports that could lower their drug costs.

TRUTH ABOUT GENERIC DRUGS - (Generic Drugs Facts)

Recently there has been a lot of talk, and plenty of confusion, about generic drugs. What are they? Why are they different? Can you benefit from their use?

A generic drug (generic drugs, short: generics) is a drug which is produced and distributed without patent protection (The generic drug may still have a patent on the formulation but not on the active ingredient). A generic must contain the same active ingredients as the original formulation.. Thus a generic drug is simply a branded drug that uses a different name. You’ll recognize many of the names. The brand Viagra has a generic called Generic Viagra(Sildenafil Citrate) which helps men to treat Erectile Dysfunction.
