  • Prostaglandins are sometimes called local hormones because they act close to where they are produced rather than all over the body
  • They have a remarkably wide range of effects. One of their actions is to cause inflammation. All these effects are potentially beneficial.
  • Swelling can help to immobilise injured joints, heat and increased blood flow promote healing, and pain alerts the injured person that there is a problem (so that he or she will quickly remove their hand from a hot stove.
  • for example, to prevent further injury). However, they can often be too much of a good thing - once we know we are injured, the pain no longer has a function and we wish to be rid if it; often the inflammatory response is too powerful and can do more harm than good.
  • Prostaglandins are involved in bringing about the inflammatory response. Ibuprofens action as a painkiller and antipyretic (fever-reducing) compound is due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins.
  • Take generic ibuprofen exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • Do not take more of this medication than is recommended. An overdose can cause damage to your stomach or intestines.
  • The maximum amount of it for adults is 800 milligrams per dose or 3200 mg per day (4 maximum doses) .
  • Use only the smallest amount of medication needed to get relief from your pain, swelling, or fever. Take ibuprofen with food or milk to lessen stomach upset. Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose.
  • To be sure you get the correct dose, measure the liquid with a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup, not with a regular table spoon. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
  • These chewable tablet must be chewed before you swallow it.

  • All NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, may cause congestive heart failure or swelling. Contact your healthcare provider if you notice unexplained weight gain or swelling. Also, ibuprofen should be used with caution in people with heart failure
  • All NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, may cause problems in the stomach and intestines, including bleeding (known as gastrointestinal bleeding), stomach ulcers, or holes in the stomach or intestines.
  • These problems can lead to serious complications.
  • If you have a history of ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding, it's extremely important that you discuss this with your physician before taking ibuprofen.
  • Avoid taking it if you are taking aspirin to prevent stroke or heart attack. Generic Ibuprofen can make aspirin less effective in protecting your heart and blood vessels.
  • If you must use both medications, take this medicine at least 8 hours before or 30 minutes after you take the aspirin (non-enteric coated form).
  • Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any other cold, allergy, or pain medicine. Generic Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs are contained in many combination medicines
  • Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of it. Check the label to see if a medicine contains ibuprofen or similar NSAIDs (aspirin, naproxen, ketoprofen).
  • Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of stomach bleeding.
