Erectile dysfunction is the main reason for the unsatisfactory sexual life. Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability in the men to get the erection or sustain the erection for the sufficient time during the intercourse. The problem of erectile dysfunction has destroyed the sexual life of men. Relationship in the men and women is suffering a lot due to the erectile dysfunction. Married men are not able to satisfy their partners and are ending with the divorce. Erectile dysfunction has really become a bad nightmare for the men. Erectile dysfunction is noted among the 70% of the men in the world, either temporarily or permanently.

According to research scientists who are trying to find out the causes of erectile dysfunction, the main reasons for Erectile Dysfunction are physical factors, organic factors, or psychological factors. Among 90% of men suffering from Erectile Dysfunction, physical factors or organic factors are found be the cause. Psychological factors were found to be the reason for erectile dysfunction in nearly 10% of men. Even the tiredness, anxiety, temporary decrease in libido, and lack of compatibility with the sexual partner can lead to the erectile dysfunction. Some times even the mental disorders like depression, less self confidence can cause erectile dysfunction.

Peripheral Vascular Disease Structural damage to the penis may be due to Fibrosis of the penis tissues, caused by scarring or organic diseases, the painful retraction of the foreskin of the penis or genital herpes, Peyronie disease (which lead to an abnormal curving of the penis), the painful retraction of the foreskin of the penis or genital herpes.

Peripheral Vascular Disease is the most common cause of Erectile Dysfunction. In this disease less amount of blood is supplied to the penis, which results in the less rigid erections or the inability to maintain the erection for the sufficient time during the sexual intercourse. Erection is found to be hard and long lasting only when blood supply by the arteries to the penis is adequate. Blood fills the erectile bodies made of spongy tissues and gives the firm and long-lasting erections.

Peripheral Vascular Disease is connected with many systematic diseases, which affect the blood vessels of the genital region, directly or indirectly. Diseases such as high cholesterol, heart disease, renal failure, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis,, diabetes mellitus, and others lead to the damage of the contractile walls of the veins, and provoke hardening, narrowing, or blockages of the arteries leading to the erectile dysfunction.

Structural damage to the penis is one of the main reasons for erectile dysfunction. Structural damage to the penis is caused by Fibrosis of the penis tissues because of scarring or organic diseases, the painful retraction of the foreskin of the penis or genital herpes, excessive sports, or unfortunate accidents that damages penis.

Neurological Damage or disorders of the nervous system can cause erectile dysfunction. Diseases of nervous system like neurosyphilis, Parkinson disease and other diseases of the motor system, stroke, hypothalamo-hypophysiary disease, multiple sclerosis, some tumors of the brain and of the pituitary gland, and epilepsy affect potency. These diseases affect the brain structures that are responsible for the central control of sexual drive and performance.

Some of the other causes of erectile dysfunction are excessive intake of Alcohol, tobacco, marijuana (cannabis), cocaine, and other recreational drugs. Nearly 80% of chronic alcoholics suffer from chronic impotence. Researchers have proved that heavy smokers have important damage to the blood supply to the penis.

Hormonal disorder is one of the reasons for erectile dysfunction. Nearly 5% to 10 % of men suffer from some kind of hormonal disorder. Aging is one of common hormonal disorder that is caused by the decrease in the level of testosterone, the main sexual hormone in men. Reduced level of testosterone causes decrease in sexual performance and libido because the hormones are responsible for the sending the signals for increasing the blood supply to the brain during sexual stimulation.
