5 Myths About running

Most people assume that running is one of the easiest and simplest ways of getting into shape. You don’t need to take expert advice, all that you need to do is tie up your shoe laces and get running- right? Wrong! Though sounds easy enough, there are various myths that are associated with it, myths that can make this ‘simple’ exercise, not have the desired effect. Some of the most common myths are:

1. Myth- Running in the cold weather will make you catch cold.

There are more germs in your house that outside making you an easy target to catch cold and fall sick. Though there are many who state that decrease in temperature can affects ones immune system, fact is that it also exposes you to a lot of viral attacks.

2. Myth -If you run slow, if wont be beneficial to your health

No matter how slow you run, you are bound to be benefited. In fact, slow running can make you workout longer as you do not get tired easily while running fast can get you tired fast. Running at a fast speed for a long time, can be harmful in some cases. No matter how slow you run, doing it for some time will make you healthy.

3. Myth: if you are too old, you better not run the marathon

As long as you are able to run as well as jog, you can complete a marathon. People in their 20’s have also done it and finished in good time. All that you need to bear in mind is to make sure that you do not over stress.

4. Myth – if you are going to participate in a race, you need to do a lot of long term planning

Though you do need to prepare in advance, but there is not harm to run, as long as you are not too passionate about winning the race. The other option is to prepare for it 4 weeks in advance. This in turn will help you stay fit and increase your chances of doing well at the race.

5. Myth: Vigorous activity can hurt you.

As long as you keep a gap of 5 days, no amount of activity will hurt as you. These 5 days give you body ample time to restore torn tissues and muscles and get you back in health.  These days will also ensure that you do not lose the conditioning of your body to working out.
